Eight years ago, the seeds of an idea were planted. For the last four years, we’ve poured our hearts, energy, and determination into turning that dream into reality. And since May this year, we’ve been in the most intense, exciting phase yet – physically transforming the grounds outside Matthew’s House into something truly special.
Now, we’re in the final weeks… and we can’t wait to open the gates!
On Saturday 20th September at 3:00pm, we’ll be celebrating the official launch of Greenhill Gardens – Swansea’s brand-new urban heritage greenspace and a gift for our city from Matthew’s House and The Hill Church.
Greenhill Gardens is a place for reflection, community, and history, built on almost 1,000 years of stories. Through our three unique Heritage Trails, you can discover the lives of those who came before us, the local legends that shaped this area, and the meaning behind our motto:
“Remembering the poor of the past, and bringing hope for today.”
Launch Day Highlights:
🍕 Free pizza slice for all
🍰 Cake & hot drinks
🎶 Live background music
🙌 Meet our incredible volunteers
✨ Explore the Heritage Trail in 3 versions:
• Main Trail – stories of Swansea’s past
• Dive Deeper Trail – rich history & hidden details
• Tarran’s Trail – a fun, interactive adventure for families and kids
Children can join Tarran the Time Traveller on a journey through history, collecting stamps along the way and earning a special badge to mark their adventure.
This day is more than just an opening – it’s a celebration of years of teamwork, persistence, and community spirit. From volunteers and funders to friends, neighbours, and tradespeople who believed in the vision, Greenhill Gardens is for all of us.
💛 We’d love for you to join us, celebrate with us, and be part of this new chapter in Swansea’s story.
