FAQs

Our team share in schools, community groups and welcome over 100 guests and volunteers on open days where many have questions about what we do and how we do it! This section will hopefully help answer some more common questions we get so you can feel even more encouraged to get involved!

Who is Matt?

Great question! – Being setup by The Hill Church and wanting to be a “Beacon of Hope” of Hope in Swansea after purchasing Matthew’s House we felt the feeling of a home is so important. A familiar verse in the Bible in Matthew 9v9 came to mind to one of our Co-Founders about Jesus going to Matthew’s House, they had a kind of party in his house and realised they wanted to welcome anyone who needed it, needed a home to come into, the food and so much more. It was frowned upon by the Local “big wigs” at the time as Jesus and Matthew welcomed the most bruised and broken in and Jesus says “It is not the healthy that need a doctor but the sick”

We hope to be a place at Matthew’s House where everyone is welcome and feels valued and looked after just like they did at the original Matthew’s House.

The verse in the new international version is…

Matthew 9:9-13 As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him. 10 While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with him and his disciples. 11 When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”12 On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. 13 But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’[a] For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
