Matthew’s House Featured in Documentary “The Cost” at Taliesin

This week, we were honoured to be part of a powerful and emotional short film, The Cost, shown at the Taliesin Arts Centre as part of a community screening highlighting the real impact of the cost-of-living crisis.

Directed by Amina Abu-Shahba and Max Webborn, and created in partnership with Swansea University and the Arts Council of Wales, The Cost gives a voice to the people behind the statistics — those facing impossible choices, rising hardship, and shrinking safety nets.

We were chuffed to be included in the project, sharing a glimpse of the reality we see daily at Matthew’s House. But we were also deeply moved — and saddened — by the truths the film laid bare.

Because no one should need the kind of support we provide. And yet, so many do. And so, we keep going — working hard, loving people well, and showing up, day after day.

“There really would have been no film without you,” the director shared with us — a reminder that stories matter, and so do the people behind them.

We want to thank Taliesin, the student filmmakers, our friends at Fairer Future, and every individual and organisation that contributed to this project — especially those who bravely shared their stories.
