A couple of times a year, our volunteers and staff team swap the hustle and bustle of Matthew’s House for something a little different — getting out into the community, lending a hand elsewhere, and enjoying some precious time together.
This time, we headed to our friends at Cae Tan CSA – a wonderful community-supported agriculture project we’ve been connected with since 2018, when they first donated fresh veg to us. It’s always a joy to work alongside friends and partners like these, whose values of sustainability, local produce, and community spirit align so well with our own.
And what a day it was! This particular trip turned out to be Onion Day 🧅 — and as the photos show, there were more than a few! The team got stuck in with planting, sorting, and plenty of cheerful chatter. By the end of the day, the onions were ploughed, the fields looked brilliant, and there may have been a few achy backs and stiff legs the following morning… but it was absolutely worth it!
Midway through the day, we paused for something truly special — a freshly prepared lunch cooked and shared by the Cae Tan team, made from the food grown right there on the land. It was delicious, nourishing, and the perfect chance to sit, laugh, and enjoy the sunshine together.
Days like this remind us how important it is not just to serve others, but to invest in each other — to build our own relationships, strengthen our teamwork, and reconnect with why we do what we do.
We’re so thankful to the Cae Tan team for hosting us so warmly, and we’re already looking forward to our next visit! Until then, every time we see an onion, we might just smile and remember this brilliant day.
