A celebration of excellence, teamwork and hospitality done with heart
We are thrilled to announce that Matthew’s House has once again received a 5 Star Food Hygiene Rating, our sixth top rating in just eight years.
Even though we have been blessed with this rating before, it never stops feeling special. It never stops feeling like a victory for our volunteers. It never stops reminding us just how much love goes into this place.
For us, this award is not just about clean kitchens and safe processes. It is a reflection of the heart, the care and the commitment of the people behind the scenes, the people who show up week after week to cook, clean, organise, prepare, restore and serve.
A team effort like no other
With over 230,000 meals served to date, Matthew’s House is powered by an incredible volunteer family of more than 150 people. Every one of them plays a role in maintaining the standards that this rating recognises, from our chefs and pot-washers, to our cleaners, sorters, organisers and servers.
Our Corporate Friends also play a vital role in helping us maintain our space, supporting us with repairs, maintenance and the unseen jobs that keep Matthew’s House welcoming and safe. Their contribution is part of the reason this place continues to feel like home for so many.
Why this rating matters
We believe excellent hospitality is an act of dignity. A clean kitchen, a safe space and a well-run service sends a quiet message to every guest who walks through our doors.
“You matter, and we want to serve you well.”
This 5 star rating tells the story of a community that cares deeply about doing things properly because the people we serve deserve nothing less.
Thank you
To every volunteer who has scrubbed, chopped, cleaned, washed, lifted, organised or poured their heart into the kitchen, thank you.
To every Corporate Friend who has helped us look after this beautiful building, thank you.
To every supporter who donates, encourages and believes in our mission, thank you.
This rating belongs to all of us.
Together we will continue to serve with Hope and Hospitality, building a community that feels like home.
