From Matthew’s House to Parliament: A Voice for Hope

The local MP Torsten Bell visited Matthew’s House earlier this year, he was visibly moved. He saw first-hand the compassion, the commitment, and the community spirit that powers everything we do — from hot meals to emergency support and genuine friendship.

But what struck him most was this:
The work we do — while beautiful — shouldn’t have to exist at this scale.

So when Torsten stood to deliver his maiden speech in Parliament, he did something remarkable. He spoke about us.

“In Swansea, more than 300 households become homeless every single month… I recently visited Matthew’s House, a remarkable local charity that provides meals, haircuts, showers and a listening ear. The work is inspiring — but it is also a sign of how many people are falling through the cracks.”

His words honoured the effort of our volunteers, staff and supporters — while challenging leaders to build a society where support like ours is not the only safety net left.

We’re incredibly grateful for Torsten’s encouragement and honesty. It reminds us that what we do matters — and that the people we serve deserve better.

Let’s keep standing in the gap. And let’s keep pushing for a better future.
