Greenhill Gardens: A Vision Nearly Complete

After over four years of dreaming, digging, designing and determination – Greenhill Gardens is in its final phase!

It’s been our biggest and most ambitious project yet – turning a long-forgotten burial ground into a beautiful heritage green space and community hub, full of meaning, life, heritage and history. We’re exhausted… but beyond excited, with the official opening planned for mid-September!

This transformation has only been possible thanks to the generous support of many funders, partners and friends who believed in the vision.

🟡 Our lead funder, the National Heritage Lottery Fund, provided over £210,000 in core funding – as well as a significant top-up that helped us overcome unexpected challenges along the way. Their belief in the power of community heritage has been the backbone of this project.

🟣 The Girls Guild community, who closed just over two years ago, gave us a powerful early push with vital funding to help kickstart the works – including supporting our digital heritage trail that will bring these stories to life online for all.

And to fully bring the space to life, we’ve had major backing from:

  • Moondance Foundation

  • Postcode Lottery

  • Swansea Council Men’s Shed Fund

  • Nationwide Building Society

  • WCVA Landfill Disposals Tax Communities Scheme

Each of these incredible supporters helped us deliver vital features of the project – from trees and greenery, to the stunning Buddy Hut with a living roof, tranquil seating areas, interactive heritage trail and habitat walls, and so much more.

This has been a true community effort. Friends and family members of those buried here, volunteers, local supporters, and even our trades teams have all helped with time, donations, and sheer determination.

A huge thank you to those who’ve carried this with us:

Victoria Wade Architects (Jo & Vic), NP Landscaping (Nick & team), County Power (Dan & team), PES Security (the whole family!), Carl Morgan Architect, Greenhat, Steve Knapton Project management, The Matt’s House team and many more who gave us materials, labour, guidance, and belief.

We’re so nearly there… and we can’t wait to welcome you in to experience the space, the stories, and the hope it now holds.

Let’s finish strong. 🌿💛
