At Matthew’s House, volunteers are the heart of everything we do. Whether they’re making meals, washing up, sharing a smile, running marathons, or simply showing up when it matters most — we couldn’t do any of this without them.
Volunteers’ Week, celebrated nationally during the first week of June, is always a special moment for us to pause, reflect, and shout a big THANK YOU to the incredible people who give their time, energy, and love to serve others in Swansea through Matthew’s House.
Here’s how we’ve been celebrating this year:
🏛️ Waterfront Celebration
We were delighted to attend the Waterfront One Stop Volunteering Event, alongside many brilliant local organisations. Some of our amazing volunteers represented Matthew’s House, shared our story, and invited others to get involved in making a difference. While they were flying the flag in public, others were holding things down at home — continuing to serve guests at our base with care and compassion.
🌟 Volunteer Thank You Night
Later this week, around 40 volunteers will join us for our much-loved Volunteer Thank You Night — a joyful evening filled with fun, food, laughter, and appreciation. It’s a time for us to share stories, celebrate one another, and host our annual awards and prize-giving, recognising the dedication, creativity, and kindness that shines through our team all year round.
🏃♂️ Swansea Half Marathon – 25 Runners Strong!
We’re also cheering on an incredible team of 25 volunteer runners who are taking on the Swansea Half Marathon, raising awareness and funds to support our ongoing work. They’re a bold, brave, and beautiful bunch — and we couldn’t be prouder!

This year, we also helped coordinate and create the official Swansea volunteer managers video, titled “Thank You Swansea Volunteers!” — because we know how important it is to celebrate all volunteers, across every corner of our city. Of course, we’re a little biased, but we still believe ours are the best 😄❤️
