“How I Wish Matthew’s House Existed Years Ago”

One day this week, we had a conversation that truly warmed our hearts.

An older gentleman stopped by at an event we were at sharing about what support we offer, He mentioned they recently came to us to use the laundry facilities—something he does now and then. As we chatted, he shared something deeply moving:

“I’m back on my feet now, but how I wish Matthew’s House had been around years ago when I spent 13+ years on the street. You are such a support to those who need it.”

Hearing those words was a reminder of why we do what we do. Every meal, every warm moment, every conversation—it all matters.

Before he left, he was offered a small gift—some leftover Welsh cakes we had at the stall. He smiled, tucked them away, and made a promise:

“I’ll come back for lunch one day.”

A simple moment. But one that showed the power of kindness, dignity, and the unwavering support of this community.

This is why Matthew’s House exists. This is why we keep going.
