Just over a month ago, a guest arrived at Matthew’s House with a friend who had just become homeless. With nowhere to stay, he was facing a night of rough sleeping after his B&B closed for refurbishment. His wages and benefit payments weren’t due for another week, and he felt completely stuck.
As we always do, we listened. With the help of our team and the process we’ve come to trust, we asked questions, explored options, and made some calls. We managed to connect him with possible support, setting up a meeting for him that very day.
After finishing their meals, they hurried off to these meetings, hopeful for a solution. Often, in moments like these, we don’t hear what happens next—we give hope and trust that it makes a difference.
But this time, just a few weeks later, he returned. With a smile, he looked at us and said, “Thank you—it worked! I got a place just outside Swansea. Now I can start looking for work and moving forward.”
He stayed for a meal that day, this time not as someone without hope, but as someone taking his next step forward.
This is why we keep going. Every moment of kindness, every small act of support—it all adds up. And sometimes, we’re lucky enough to see the impact first-hand.
