This spring we noticed an increase of 23% more usage of Matthew’s House. While trying to figure out what has been going on, we heard of a couple of other groups which sadly had closed down, due to problems with funding and volunteers. So, this was a moment we took to weather the storm but also to pause and appreciate those who support us regularly, and our wonderful volunteer family. Such incredible support helped us get through this busy period and get to the plateau where can continue to manage and enjoy continuing to serve hope and hospitality in the heart of Swansea.
Whilst considering this, we were conscious that we didn’t want to lower our high standards of hospitality. This is something we cherish and want to do well. Right in the thick of all this, during a couple of our busiest days, we received a few positive comments to encourage us. One guest shared with us,
“Coming to Matt’s Cafe is like getting sirloin steak every single day!” Another guest turned and said,
“Those burgers were quality, the best I have had in a long while!”
A third guest, with a language barrier, walked over to the team as he got up to leave, grinning and with smiling eyes wide open, saying, “Delicious! Delicious! Delicious!”
These are moments that remind us and encourage us that even in the busiest of times, we can still do what we do best: providing hope and hospitality in the heart of Swansea.
