Huge Thanks to Mark Bignall for an Incredible Fundraising Effort
At Matthew’s House Swansea, we are constantly blown away by the generosity, determination and heart of the people who support the project. This weekend was another one of those moments.
One of our long standing volunteers, Mark Bignall, completed the Swansea Sprint Triathlon in support of Matthew’s House, raising an incredible £2,133 including Gift Aid.
And what makes this achievement even more remarkable is that Mark completed the challenge while carrying an injury and now requires further treatment afterwards. Despite that, he was determined to take part, determined to finish, and determined to support the work of Matthew’s House.
What a hero.
The Swansea Sprint Triathlon included a 750 metre swim, a 20km bike ride and a 5km run. Mark crossed the finish line in just over two hours after months of preparation, perseverance and pushing through difficulty.
To see him complete it was genuinely inspiring!! – Mark and his wife Hilary have supported Matthew’s House faithfully for many years and have become a deeply valued part of the project and community. Whether through volunteering, encouragement or fundraising, they consistently show up with kindness and generosity.
This latest effort has been extraordinary.
Mark not only completed the event, but smashed his original fundraising target of £1,750, with the total now standing at £2,133 including Gift Aid. This makes him one of the most impactful individual fundraisers we have had in recent years.
The funds raised will go directly toward helping Matthew’s House continue supporting people across Swansea facing homelessness, poverty, addiction, mental health struggles and crisis situations. We are honestly in awe.
Not just of the money raised, but of the determination, resilience and heart behind it.
Mark, thank you for every stroke, every pedal, every painful step and every ounce of effort you gave. We are incredibly proud of you and deeply thankful for your support of Matthew’s House.
And Hilary, thank you too for standing alongside him and cheering him on through the whole journey.
What a team. 💛
